NP Supports Children in Kissy Dockyard with School Materials

The materials, including school bags, exercise books, and boxes of pens and pencils, were handed over to representatives of the beneficiary communities during a recent ceremony.

The donation followed a request from Children’s Academic Investment Foundation, which had approached NP for support towards a free school materials distribution project targeting children from less privileged backgrounds.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, representatives of the beneficiary communities expressed appreciation to NP for responding to their needs at a time when many parents were struggling to provide the basic materials their children needed to return to school.

Receiving the materials on behalf of the beneficiaries, Councilor Sarah Amara of Ward 415 said the materials would go a long way in assisting students as they prepare to resume school, while appealing to NP to continue supporting communities in need. “We want to thank NP for the big love shown to the community.”

A parent, Agnes Gbondo, said NP's intervention was not the first time the Company had supported the community. According to her, NP had previously responded to the needs of the community and had again demonstrated its willingness to assist children who needed support. “This is not the first time NP is doing this. Back in 2024, we didn't have anything, but they came to our rescue. And this year again, they have come through for us,” she said. She said the children were happy to receive the materials and expressed gratitude to NP for responding to the Foundation's appeal. Gbondo further appealed to the Company to continue with what she described as its philanthropic support, noting that many people in the community still needed assistance.

The Chairman of CAI Foundation, Sayoh Sesay, also expressed appreciation to NP for responding positively after the Foundation had sought assistance from several organisations. He noted that the Foundation had approached a number of potential supporters but had not received a positive response until NP came to its aid. “We knocked on so many doors; unfortunately, we did not get any positive response. However, NP came to our aid to give the learning materials to the kids.” He explained that the intervention had brought considerable joy to the children, many of whom had been concerned about how they would obtain the materials needed to return to school. According to him, some of the children and their parents had even been uncertain about resuming school because they did not know where the necessary support would come from. “I am particularly happy because NP came through.”

Another beneficiary, Theresa Davies, a school-going pupil, said the support had eased concerns among parents whose children did not have basic school materials. She expressed appreciation to NP, noting that some children did not have exercise books or school bags to resume school with, but that the company's intervention had made it easier for them to prepare for the new academic year.

Speaking on behalf of NP SL at the ceremony, Engineer Alhaji Williams said the Company is pleased to give back to the communities in which it operates. He mentioned that NP considers community support an important part of its responsibility as a corporate citizen and is pleased that its contribution could put smiles on the faces of children. “We are happy as a company to give back to the society in which we operate.” He explained that the Company deliberately sets aside part of its resources to support community initiatives, adding that NP would continue to contribute to causes that bring tangible benefits to people. NP's support for the initiative is in line with the Company's broader community development efforts and its commitment to contributing to the wellbeing of communities across Sierra Leone.

Through such interventions, NP (SL) Limited continues to respond to identified community needs, with particular attention to initiatives that directly benefit children and young people.
"We knocked on so many doors; unfortunately, we did not get any positive response. However, NP came to our aid to give the learning materials to the kids."
