NP Conducts Routine Tank Cleaning and Inspection at Terminal

This routine exercise helps maintain the quality of petroleum products in storage. Over time, sludge, water residue, and other sediments can accumulate at the bottom of storage tanks. Removing these deposits helps maintain a clean storage environment and supports the proper product management during storage.

Beyond cleaning, the exercise provides an opportunity for the physical examination of the tank and an assessment of its structural integrity. Once the tank is emptied and cleaned, relevant components and internal surfaces can be examined for signs of corrosion, rupture or other conditions that may affect the tank's integrity and continued suitability for service.

Apart from cleaning, NP also conducts annual inspections of its storage tanks as part of its preventive maintenance and facility management programme. These inspections help identify potential issues early and determine whether repairs, maintenance or other interventions are required.

Reaffirming the Company’s commitment to maintaining product quality beyond importation, the Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Dr. Mohamed S. Kanu emphasised that NP’s responsibility extends beyond sourcing high-quality fuel to preserving its quality and integrity throughout storage, transportation and delivery. “At NP SL, we are committed to ensuring that every customer receives fuel that meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.”

The tank cleaning and inspection activities are part of NP's broader commitment to quality management and operational control. The Company is certified to ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, which provides a framework for maintaining consistent quality and improving processes. The exercise also supports the Company's environmental and occupational health and safety management systems under ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, respectively.

In addition to the requirements of its ISO management systems, NP (SL) Limited carries out the exercise in accordance with applicable local regulatory requirements and internal procedures established to support compliance with the relevant authorities, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA - SL), National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Sierra Leone Standards Bureau and the Factory Inspectorate. These regulatory requirements, together with NP's internal procedures and ISO management systems, provide a framework for the proper inspection, maintenance and management of the Company's storage facilities.

Through regular tank cleaning, inspection and maintenance, NP continues to take preventive measures to protect product quality, maintain the integrity of its storage infrastructure and support safe and reliable operations at its Terminal.
"At NP SL, we are committed to ensuring that every customer receives fuel that meets the highest standards of quality and reliability."

NP remains dedicated to its "1st for Customer Care" motto, ensuring that our growth translates into better services and community development across the West African sub-region.
